Brooks Hagan is a textile designer, artist and researcher. He designs for various companies and has consulted with industry partners such as Apple Inc and Under Armour. Hagan’s research with the Virtual Textile Research Group investigates historical industrial textile processes, advanced manufacturing, volumetric weaving for rapid prototyping and new computational tools for textile design. A current NSF project explores technique-agnostic yarn assembly through novel equipment, simulation and tangible design strategies. In 2015 Hagan cofounded the textile technology company Computational Textiles Inc, which launched Weft in 2018. Hagan collaborates with many fine artists and maintains an active studio practice centered on hand-based work. He is a professor at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) where he has taught since 2006.
